In 1989, the 'Burgum Novum' label was created to represent the most select wines at Castelfeder, with grapes grown in the most prestigious and carefully maintained vineyards. Compared to the above Lagrein 'Rieder,' the 'Burgum Novum' expresses more maturity and depth. Hand-harvested and with primary fermentation occurring in open barrel for 10 days, it is then aged in barrique for 18 months. It then sees another 6 months in steel and finally 12 months in bottle. Serious aromatics suggest dark-skinned berry, ground pepper and a hint of flint while on the palate this wonderfully balanced riserva showcases concentrated dark fruit, espresso, and vanilla notes alongside robust tannins. A winter warmer if there ever was one.
