By far the most planted red wine grape in the region, Schiava (aka Vernatsch) is perhaps the most quintessential South Tyrolean red. This thin skinned yet unusually large grape likens itself to Gamay and Dolcetto in its elegance and balance. With a 10-14 day maceration followed by 6 months on the lees, 'Alte Reben' is a delicately light red with pleasant notes of violet and woodland berry on the nose, followed by refreshing touches of wild strawberry, dark cherry, and Alpine spice on the palate. Perfect with cured meats or a mid-week Banh mi.
