A dizzying blend of 18 varietals both red and white—Sangiovese, Grenache, Canaiolo Nero, Moscato Nero, Malvasia, Trebbiano Nero, Aleatico, Uva di Spagna, Corinto Nero and Empolo, to name a few — 'Saverio' is sourced from a remote, co-planted parcel on the south side of the island, the vines can only be reached on foot, the harvested fruit being laboriously lugged, box by box. The name translates in the Giglio dialect as ‘savage’ and the wine offers up a myriad of elements indicative of such a quality: intense and mature red fruits, roasted anise, pressed flowers, grilled meat, and the saltiness of the Tyrrhenian sea. Enjoy over 2-3 days.
