Tomei Abbuoto Rosso 2021

Tomei Abbuoto Rosso 2021

$39.00

Never heard of Abbuoto? Neither had we! Abbuoto was the best kept secret of Roman emperors and one of the most valued grapes of the time (Latin poet Horace speaks of its preciousness, alluding to the intense red color, which, falling to the ground, could even stain the floor’s mosaic.) This is Marco’s interpretation of the ancient grape, recovered after scrupulous research and eventual massale selection onto his property. The wine ferments on native yeasts, spends 15 days on skins, and ages in anfora, then is bottled unfined and unfiltered. Bright and aromatic nose full of fresh red fruits – strawberries, Morello cherries – and Chinotto. Refreshing and snappy on the palate, with a continued emphasis on clear, juicy fruit, offset by savory notes of mellow medicinal herbs and Chinese five spice. While no longer lost to the mists of time, Marco’s Abuotto remains highly limited, with only 1000 bottles produced.
