Take Two! - Princic Rosso + Bianco

$66.00
An electric and masterful little skin contact wine, Dario's Bianco is a multi-vintage blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Grigio, sourced from 60 year old vines and subject to 22 days macerating on skins, fermented and aged in chestnut vats for 24 months. A punchy nose  of papaya, stewed quince and sweet-pickled citrus zest is pocked with marigold flowers, coconut, cardamom pods; the palate wound tightly around a lightning bolt of acidic pucker, with a wonderfully nutty, umami character lending and counterbalance of softness and texture. While seemingly Bordelaise in its genetics (though Merlot and Cabernet have been in these parts for over a century), Dario's multi-vintage Rosso bottling toes a far more energetic and wild line in comparison to most stock-standard interpretations available stateside. Primarily Merlot with a small addition of Cabernet Sauvignon, the Rosso leads with lusher elements of bramble, baking spice, poached plums and blackcurrant paste, lifted by higher tones wild strawberry and raspberry kombucha, and savory waves of briney, animalistic funk. Tannins are fine and acidity is pitch perfect - don't be afraid to give this one the lightest of chills.

Having founded in his estate, nestled in the hillsides at the easternmost edge of the Friuli Colli Orientali region, in the earlt 90s, Dario Princic quickly found himself in the midst of a group of like-minded growers and winemakers (he counts the Gravners and the Radikons as his closest neighbors), all of them set on reviving the region's once-celebrated native varietals, and moreover, the old-school, non-interventionist approach to vinifying them.
