Montebernardi Sa-Etta Chianti Classic Riserva 2012

$39.00

The Montebernardi estate is run by Michael Schmelzer, an American native that moved to the Tuscan town of Panzano to produce diverse and delicious wines. Schmelzer purchased the winery in 2003.

Vineyard work in done in accordance to organic methods (some biodynamic) with low intervention in the cellar, with long fermentations, carried out by natural yeasts. Soils are of a high rock content mixture, which depending on the vineyard, consists of shale (Galestro), sandstone (Arenaria) and limestone (Alberese).

This is 100% Sangiovese from a single vineyard site known as Sa’etta, which is known for its optimal exposure and terrain on the estate. After fermentation, in large oak casks, the wine is placed in a combination of German and Austrian oak where it undergoes malolactic fermentation. The wine remains in oak for at least 24 months, followed by a bottle-aging period of 12 months.
