Foradori Fontanasanta Nosiola 2013$52.00
Elisabetta Foradori is the top producer of Teroldego, an ancient, native grape variety that is related to Syrah and Pinot Noir. In 1985, at the age of 19, Elisabetta took over her father’s estate, which originally dates back to 1901. The estate consists of 16 hectares, spread over 15 parcels, all farmed biodynamically. The soils are a mixture of sandy alluvial deposits and morainic limestone from the nearby dolomites. While the vineyards are flat, they have excellent drainage. The majority of the white grapes are now coming from the Fontanasanta vineyard, an organic vineyard-rich in limestone and clay.
Nosiola is an ancient grape variety native to Trentino, at one time planted widely throughout the region but whose cultivation is now restricted to the Valle dei Laghi and the hills above Trento and Pressano. It is a variety that gives a strong expression of its character only when grown in poor soils, giving rise to wines of great delicacy and longevity. A varietal that is traditionally fermented on the skins. Foradori's Nosiola is aged 8 months on the skins in anfora. We love this Nosiola for its brightness, slight tannic grip, wild-flower and savory characteristics.
