Crociani Vin Santo 2005 500ml

$45.00

The Crociani Estate is situated at Le Caggiole, one of the most breathtaking areas in the heart of the Vino Nobile production area.
The vineyards, covering about 10 hectares, are planted on soft clay soils, well-suited for vine growth. The wine is aged in the fourteenth-century cellars in the historic center of Montepulciano as well as San Biago.

Montepulciano, of Etruscan origin and a free commune since the 13th century. Amongst Siena and Florence, it was argued to be the "Pearl of the 16th century" and is known as the because of its works by famous renaissance artists such as Vignola, Antonio da Sangallo il Vecchio and Baldassare Peruzzi.

The process of Vino Santo is a beautiful one. Regional grapes, Malvasia and Grechetto bianco (dialect Pulcinculo) are manually harvested in the fall, then trucked to the cellar, where they hung one by one, (or placed on straw mats) to slowly dry until the arrival of spring. When sugar and acidity are at optimal levels, the wine is then pressed off and fermented. The aging minimum for D.O.C. status is at least three years. Crociani chooses to age for at least eight years in small barrel, 'caratelli'.
