3 white wines from Collecapretta:

The Vigna Vecchia is the mothership, the point of origin for all their wines, made from very old Trebbiano Spoletino vines, some of which were planted in the early 20th century. Pithy, floral, and herbaceous, with oodles of jasmine, cedar, white lilies, and salted, wet rocks. So warm yet so refreshing that it is almost impossible to have another care in the world while drinking it. Danilo Marcucci, Italian natural wine guru who works closely with Collecapretta, considers this wine the one that changed his life. Just sayin'. Then there's Terre dei Preti, the ‘Hill of the Priests’, also 100% old vine Trebbiano Spoletino, but with 10 days of skin maceration. Intense aromas of fresh-cut herbs, candied fruit, and Mediterranean scrub abound, followed by stone fruits, honey, orange blossom, and almond. It's a superb orange wine and a perfect summation of the land, refined and wild at once. Perhaps the smoothest operator of the bunch, Pigro delle Sorbe is 100% direct-press Greco with an absolute sunny and inviting disposition. A nutty nose of almond and hazelnut with flashes of ripe tropical fruit, quince, apricot, yellow flowers, sun-baked tarragon and sage; uber-fresh at first sip and on the finish with just enough seductive creaminess mid-palate, balancing the inherent oiliness of Greco with plenty of acidity. A subtle savory vein throughout and mid-weight body makes this just as aperitif-friendly as main course-worthy.

At first glance, Collecapretta may appear to be just another small producer from a lesser-known Italian wine region, Umbria, but believe us when we say that inside these unassuming bottles are some of Italy’s best wines. Spanning just 4 hectares and tended to by the Mattioli family, who have lived in the tiny hamlet of Terzo la Pieve since the Medieval era, Collecapretta is a celebration of all that makes Umbrian wine unique. Production is minuscule, with a total output coming to just 8000 bottles (in a good year!), so don't miss out on your chance to get your first (or fifth...) taste of these remarkable wines.
