Bonavita Vino Faro 2012

This is a beautiful wine from an up and coming region in Italy near Mt. Etna (Straits of Messina). Only a few producers make wine in the Faro DOC and Giovanni Scarfone is one of the best. His small winery, with beautiful old Alborella vines has been passed down through the generations from his father. They have never used any chemicals or pesticides so what you get is truly a pure expression of their land and grapes. Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio, & Nocera (native grape of Faro). There is a what some describe as a Burgundian like quality in his wine, dark and earthy, with an elegance shining through it's core and if you close your eyes and take a sip your mind may wander to Piedmont and the famed wines of Barolo. Bonavita offers this for a fraction of the cost. Truth be told, what you are tasting is a wine from an area that is quickly rising through the ranks and is on the precipice of becoming known as one of the great wines and world class regions of Italy.
