Ampeleia Un Litro di Ampeleia

Ampeleia is a collaboration between Elisabetta Foradori, Thomas Widmann, and Giovanni Podini. In 2002, they came across a multiple plots of land amongst an old estate, located in the area of Maremma. What they soon came to realize is that these vineyards had many desirable traits; a variety of altitude levels, diverse microclimates and soil type.

This 1L bottle is a wine for everyday. A blend of 60% Alicante Nero (aka Grenache), 30% Mourvedre with smaller percentages of Carignano and Alicante Bouschet blended from vineyards of 200-350 meters above sea level. A small portion of this blend undergoes carbonic maceration, while the remaning is fermented whole cluster or simply crushed. Macerations last a brief 5-7 days and is aged 6 months in cement tanks, before being bottled.

This is a dry, delicately spiced, medium-bodied red that is not only good on its own, but with a slew of dishes. A must with pizza!
