Altura Rosso Saverio Isola del Giglio 2018
Altura’s 2018 Rosso Saverio, Francesco’s flagship red, is a wine that is near impossible to encapsulate in a single paragraph. A dizzying blend of 18 varietals both red and white—Sangiovese, Grenache, Canaiolo Nero, Moscato Nero, Malvasia, Trebbiano Nero, Aleatico, Uva di Spagna, Corinto Nero and Empolo, to name a few—the wine is undoubtedly place-expressive, but it nevertheless seems to have no clear analog anywhere else in the wine world. Sourced from a remote, co-planted parcel on the south side of the island, the vines can only be reached on foot, the harvested fruit being laboriously lugged, box by box, to a distant 4WD-only road. 'Saverio' translates in the Giglio dialect as ‘savage’ and the wine offers up a myriad of elements indicative of such a quality: intense and mature red fruits (grapes are macerated for a full 12 months after pressing!), roasted Mediterranean herbs, pressed flowers, grilled meat, sea salt. It’s almost as if soil, sun, ocean, and the blood, sweat and tears of one exceptionally driven individual has been captured in liquid form. Transportational! Drink 2025-2040 and enjoy over 2-3 days.
Due to the restrictions of many state laws, we only ship wine to those states where direct shipment from a retailer is permitted by law; currently we ship to AK, CA, DC, ID, LA, MO, NE, NV, NH, NM, ND, OR, VA, WV and WY. This list is subject to change without notice. In addition, each state imposes limitations on the amount of wine any particular resident may receive by direct shipment. To ensure that you are able to order wine for direct shipment from our website, please consult the specific state requirements for your state.
Please note that all orders must be placed by persons who are at least 21 years old, and that age verification will be required upon receipt of your wine. No wine will be delivered to obviously intoxicated persons and any person unable to provide age verification will forfeit their right to receive the shipment until identification is produced. In such circumstances, the order may either be held in storage at a local depot of the shipping company until appropriate identification is produced, or shipped back to the winery. All associated costs will be the responsibility of and be charged to the customer.
