Ronchi di Cialla Schioppettino 1999

Friulian estate run by Dina and Paolo Rapuzzi and their son. They specialize in regional varietals such as Schioppettino. The earliest written mentions of Schioppettino go back to 1282 on manuscripts now kept in the Albana Castle, in the Prepotto province. Ronchi, in the dialect of Friuli, means hills cultivated with vines. Cialla is a small valley surrounded by woods with chestnut, oak and wild cherry trees, in the D.O.C. Colli Orientali del Friuli area.

Schioppettino grapes are sourced from Cialla, Prepotto (Udine) Friuli, northeast Friuli. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, maceration takes place with constant pump-overs, the wine is ultimately aged in barrels for 12-18 months. Further aging for an additional year in bottle.
