The Cavanna vineyard is the one held most dear by the Giordano familt: it was the first to be vinified as a single-vineyard by Luigi in 1971 and, ever since, the family has been the only producer to produce a Barbaresco bearing the vineyard designation. Cavanna is the subzone closest to the center of the village of Barbaresco, tucked just below the historic castle of Barbaresco. This amphitheater’s combination of sand and clay yields the sort of red-cherry fruit and fine tannin. 2017 is for drinking this year, 2018 in the next couple, and 2019 is one to hand onto for another decade.
